Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG)

I have been conducting research at The Institute of Soil Science and Crop Cultivation – State Research Institute in Pulawy, Poland since 1985. I was awarded professorship in Agriculture in 2007 and headed the Department of Cereal Crop Cultivation from 2006 to 2016.
My area of expertise spans across a variety of agricultural disciplines such as growth and development of crops, crop cultivation technologies, factors influencing baking quality of grains as well as occurrence of Fusarium mycotoxins.
Winter wheat and buckwheat are my main focus. I am an author or co-author of over 300 publications from which over 120 are scientific articles and the remaining include contributions such as: conference proceedings, popular science articles and practical instructions for farmers.
I have supervised three PhD students, reviewed two professorship applications and eight PhD theses. Furthermore, I have peer-reviewed numerous manuscripts within my area of expertise.
I have been a leader on 3 research project funded by State Committee for Scientific Research and National Science Centre as well as on numerous projects funded by the Institute of Soil Science and Crop Cultivation.
I collaborate with a number of international and local partners including individual farmers, fellow researchers from academia such as: Poznan University of Life Science, Lublin University of Life Science, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Institute of Agricultural and Food Biotechnology in Warsaw.
I also collaborate with commercial partners such as Danko, Strzelce and Smolice Polish commercial company, dealing mainly with the breeding of agricultural crops. Furthermore, I am an active workshops facilitator and lecturer for a wide range of audiences including individual farmers, academic staff and university students, high school students as well as employees of the national agricultural advisory centre.
I have disseminated the results of my research at a numerous conferences and symposia, both international and in Poland. Moreover, I have been a leader of organizing and scientific committees during the organization of seven major scientific conferences.

Currently, my research focuses on two projects:

  1. How agro technical factors influence yield, baking quality and mycotoxin contamination in winter wheat cultivars.
  2. How effectiveness of nitrogen utilization by crops is influenced by cultivar as well as cultivation technology factors.
